New developments proposed for our area

Developers have proposed two new developments near Kimberley North. We are posting this information as we know you’d want to be aware of these projects.

  • A senior living facility on the property previously used by Eagle Elementary School on 14 Mile Road and Middlebelt Road in West Bloomfield
  • An assisted living and memory care facility plus a self-storage facility on 14 Mile Road in Farmington Hills

The following is from a Public Notice posted in the West Bloomfield Beacon regarding the proposed project at 14 and Middlebelt

Plans are available for review 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday at the Planning Department located within Township Hall. Any comments regarding this request may be made in writing to the Planning Department or by appearing at the public hearing. Please contact the Planning Department at askplanning@wbtownship.prg or 248-451-4876 with any questions.

The Township will provide necessary, reasonable auxiliary aids and services to individuals with disabilities at a public hearing/meeting upon advance notice in writing or by calling the Township Clerk at 248-451-4848.

Preliminary Review for Stone Hill of West Bloomfield PUD (SP17-28)

Kevin Brown for PIRHL Developers LLC and Gary Eisenberg for Velmier Companies are requesting preliminary review for a Planned Unit Development (PUD) for a 162-unit senior independent living facility.

Location: #18-35-477-037;  9.55 acres located at 2S410 W. 14 Mile Road

Zoning: R-15 One Family Residential District

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the West Bloomfield Township Board will hold a public hearing at Town Hall, 4550 Walnut Lake Road, on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. to consider the above request.

The project for 14 Mile Road is for an Assisted Living and Memory Care facility plus a separate self-storage business. These would be developed, owned, and operated by Northpoint Development of Kansas City. Northpoint has several similar facilities around the country.

This project would be situated on the now-vacant lot along the south side of 14 Mile Road (see photo). There would be one driveway cut on 14 Mile Road into the assisted living facility and one driveway cut on 14 Mile Road leading to the self-storage facility.

The developer has reached out to us and expressed an interest in becoming a positive addition to our community. These businesses will have much lower traffic impact than retail or office developments which would meet the Farmington Hills zoning requirements for this location. As an assisted living facility, residents will not drive.

Northpoint is currently in the process of applying to Farmington Hills to give a proposal for this development.

More information will be posted here as it becomes available to us. If you come across additional information about these or similar projects, please help by contacting us and sharing the information for possible inclusion on this website.

Note: The best sources for information about these developments would be the respective municipalities — Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield Township. They will announce public hearings and information sessions. We encourage area residents to attend these meetings to have any concerns addressed and to get information to share.
