Pothole repairs – What you should know

Do your part to assure that pothole repairs will be made!

Everyone hates them! But don’t assume that someone else has reported them. Don’t assume it’s a low priority. The sooner they are reported, the sooner they will be fixed. That lowers the chance of them growing into more major issues. You can prevent more costly road repairs and damage to your tires and suspension.

The Road Commission of Oakland County patrols for, and repairs, potholes. But they also depend on help from citizens to alert them.

Pothole popping up everywhere

It’s pothole time again in Michigan

If you see a pothole in our subdivision, or elsewhere in the county*, report it directly to the Road Commission.

  • Just fill out the short form on the Road Commission website and they will follow up.
  • If the situation is an emergency or potentially harmful call the Road Commission Department of Customer Services at 877-858-4804 between 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. weekdays or at 248-858-4895 after hours/weekends.

To report a pothole outside Oakland County…

(or on state roads within the Oakland County)

  • This pertains to roads beginning with the letters
    • I (as in I-696)
    • M (as in M-10, Northwestern Highway)
    • US (as in US-24, Telegraph Road)
  • Call the Michigan Department of Transportation pothole hotline for state roadways. Call 888-296-4546 any time 24/7, or use the “Report Potholes” link. Give the location, the county, the closest community and the cross street or interchange nearby.

* Note: Potholes on non-state roads should be reported to local road commissions because MDOT does not have jurisdiction over roads that are not part of the state system. Problems with subdivision roads, the mile roads, and north-south roads such as Orchard Lake Road, Farmington Road, and so on should be reported to RCOC.
